MANITOBA TO PERSIAN GULF TO LAS VEGAS TO SPAIN BACK TO THE PERSIAN GULF WITH MACK BOLAN

The reader really covers some ground, getting around, in this number 356 book of The Executioner series, starring Mack Bolan. Live large!

Hey, in 20 years of reading these Gold Eagle action/adventure books, this is one of the better reading books it's been my pleasure to come across. For me, it truly was one book I could not put down. The author is one Peter Spring and I don't recall reading much by him before, but he put together one of the better Bolans of all time in my opinion.

We're dealing here with several software engineers who sell out to terrorists, trading codes that protect our aircraft carriers in exchange for 21 million dollars. The terrorists fulfill their part of the bargain by killing everyone possible, however, they only end up with only half the code. From here Mack and Hal Brognola, the big Fed, take up the trail to prevent that last half of the code from reaching the terrorists of the Persian Gulf. It is a race with time running out for the good guys.

If you have read any Gold Eagle books before you know they deliver, or maybe you just enjoy action/adventure novels, well, this is a book a lover of action/adventure should not pass up. While it may not necessarily sound that enjoyable, once into it the book will not let you go until the last page, page 187.

Best in reading.

Essential research material for anyone with an interest in US Naval ships.

I was researching the heroic story of the loss of the USS Aaron Ward (sunk off the Solomon Islands towards the end of WW2) when I came across this item advertised on one of the Amazon websites. Unaware I was looking at an eight-volume set of books, I baulked at the price and decided to search on. Nevertheless, I kept coming back to this item and decided to take a closer look. I am so glad I did.

Set out in alphabetical order and written without fear or favour, the United States Department of Defence have provided one of the most important research tools of modern years and I congratulate them for an excellent job of work. The entry for each ship commences with a note about the origin of the name. For example, the USS Missouri is named after an American state - enough said. The Aaron Ward, however, was named after Admiral Aaron Ward and that particular section commences with a most reasonable biography of the man.

Each ship to bear a particular name is covered in varying degrees of detail - largely dependant on what historical information was available to the compilers. Famous ships and, naturally, more recent vessels, get excellent coverage although it must be said that if the information was available on those much older vessels, then their full story is told here.

Watch out for single volumes being sold separately - when you are either looking for a complete set or perhaps a different volume.

Altogether, one of the best additions to my library for a very long time.

Outstanding World War II Story!
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2008-09-19
This book proved to be an excellent story about the battle for the city
of Stalingrad. Historically this battle proved to be the turning point in the German drive for world domination. The Nazi war machine started the invasion of Stalingrad by driving to the literal front door of Stalingrad.
Before they could conquer Russia the Russian winter set in. The Nazi army was dressed for summer combat. The Russians launched a counteroffensive.
The tides of fortune changed. Before this battle was over over 3 million people would be killed.
There were some interesting people featured in the story.Lieutenant Erich Steinhoff is a skilled Nazi fighter pilot.Colonel Aleksandrovich Krasilov is a major player in the Russian air force. Dr. Zoya Krasilov who is married to the colonel escapes from a Nazi death camp and becomes
a Stalingrad sniper. Captain Jack Towers comes the the war scene to train pilots. He winds up becoming involved in a big way. Lieutenant Natalya Makarove flies with the Russian night witches.
This is not a normal Pineiro story. But it turned out to be an outstanding story. Be sure to read it.

Aboriginal Governance before Contact-Land, Language + Law

Review Date: 2005-03-16
Wit'suwit'en and Gitksan Governance existed prior to contact. And so their societal and spiritual structure intertwined with the land through the Potlatch. The Potlatch, once outlawed by Canadian Statutes under the Indian Act at the turn of the 19th Century, Delgamuukw/Gis'DaWay (SCC 1997) accepts the traditional governance of Aboriginal Peoples of Canada as "we are all here to stay". The details of the actual Potlatch and protocols are a combination of spiritual beliefs that connect to the land, language and law (potlatch). The Aboriginal concept, "collective society", is outside the traditional realms of eurocentric thought of the individualism and property ownership. Appreciating the differences with this read may dispel one sided opinions of Aboriginal Society, not yet fully understood. I should know, I am from the Tsa'yu Clan of the Wit'suwit'en. My name is Sha-ohn, sister to Chief Wil'aat and Brothin-in-law to Wah'tah'gyet. Both are contributors to the book, as Indigenous Knowledge teachers. They also were a part of Wit'suwit'en and Gitksan Elders and Chiefs who gave evidence at the trial VS: British Colombia and again at the appeal courts, the Delgamuukw Decision. Enjoy your reading and re-reading as researched and presented by Antonia Mills.

If you have any interest in the history of an eagle man who changed the world, read this book. You will amazed at the ability and determination of Mr. Charles Broley. After he retired from banking he started watching birds and eagles, fell in love with them and help contribute to saving the bald eagles we have today. This is a great primary source book for any eagle lover. Written in a simple and charming way, from years ago, by his loving wife. The book also includes some interesting photos of Mr. Broley climbing trees and banding the eaglets.

The 78th Fighter Group is owed a debt of gratitude by all who treasure freedom. The guys of the 78th cut a wide path thru the skies over France, Holland, and Germany to stem the tide of Facism in WWII. The book is one of only two that I would call "definitive" on the Americans and the missions they flew out of the famed Duxford Air Field in England. Duxford was home to the Americans who flew for the British before America entered the war. Lots of data, pictures, personal accounts. If you have even the faintest interest in what some of our boys were doing in WWII you will want to get this book. These guys put the daring in derring-do. If you have more than a faint interest in the material you should already have the book.

A LOVING MEMOIR OF A FRIENDSHIP WITH MRS. ROOSEVELT
Helpful Votes: 13 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 1999-11-20
This short magical book, with 30 intmate photographs, does a great service to all who may have wished they had known Mrs. Roosevelt(The "Mrs.R" of the title). The author, William Turner Levy, reveals, in the affectionate telling of his longstanding friendship with Mrs. R, very touching and human dimensions to the already very detailed and historic portrait of Mrs. Roosevelt. It is through his enchanting and loving memoir, told through short delightful anadotes, that I gained new insights and perspectives into the private life and personality of Mrs. R. Indeed, not only did I gain nuance, I gained a strong emotional sense of who this woman really was. The excellent comments incorporated throughout the book of Cynthia Eagle Russet, a professor of history at Yale University, provided valuable historical and contextual insight into the significance of the role of Mrs. Roosevelt in shaping history and politics. I highly recommend this charming book to all those interested in Mrs. R and a part of American history coming alive in new and fascinating ways.

A new route to clearer vision.......
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-06-09
This book combines wonderfully the spiritual and the intellectual--the heart and the mind. A personal account of Colum's own transformative journey through personal difficulties into "absolute happiness." Learning to live the message that White Eagle gave humanity through his grandmother, well-known medium Grace Cooke in the 1930's, Colum acknowledges there is a "subtle counterpoint between what a teaching says and how it can be lived out."
White Eagle teaches that "the whole point of human life is to bring love into every possible human situation. Jesus displayed "one of the most perfect examples of divine love" when he took on Judas Iscariot's karma, so that he might return love for hate. Colum reminds us that love by definition includes this capacity for tolerance. In order to become non-judgmental he suggests it may be necessary for us to look with different eyes, to view things from a changed perspective, to see with "the eyes of the spirit." This is particularly pertinent today when we are urged to break away from constructs that attempt to rigidly define us.
"Seeing with the eyes of the spirit," writes Colum, "acknowledges that we go of our own choice into a vast array of life-experiences (including illness) for growth--and even for a greater cosmic purpose." Colum feels the word "acceptance" has become a passive word. Instead we need to embrace all that life holds. Applying the spirit vision to everything and everyone brings positive change in our lives. Healing is essentially a process of change from one condition or awareness to another. Refusing to see is the true cause of depression. "If we look with new vision at the concept of time--which White Eagle tells us is not real--and attempt to live in the Now, the happier we're likely to be. Spontaneity is akin to living in the present. When we create we are always living in the moment. This is what meditation helps us do, move into the present."
Eyes of the Spirit is not just an honest account of one man's journey, it is also an interesting history of the White Eagle Lodge, illustrating convincingly that this is a worldwide family with interfaith connections, its membership stretching across the world, its books translated into over fifteen languages. It is a book that causes us to think and feel at the same time, and offers us a new route to clearer vision.
